I'm sure Bill Maher will have a lot to say on Real Time on HBO tonight about the Debate in Florida where Mitt Romney pretty much wiped the floor up with Newt Gingrich. I'll be interested to see if he uses any of the same jokes I wrote into my own piece of YouTube Stand Up. No doubt, he'll deliver them better than I did. Mitt Romney sure was a different man in the Florida debate last night against Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul. It just goes to show that when you put some money into education, the way Mitt Romney did with his new Debate Coach, some amazing things may happen. www.britethorn.com You know, Mitt Romney has always reminded me of Pinochio, because he so stiff, so wooden, and he lets his campaign advisors and polling numbers pull his strings -- or he did until yesterday when he seems to have met his Blue Fairy who's turned him into a real, live boy. From Hope's earliest tours of military bases during World War II, it was obvious that he enjoyed a unique rapport with young people. So in the fall of 1979, he made his first post-Vietnam foray into the academic world — during the Vietnam years, his stand on the war made college campuses off limits — with a carefully arranged special entitled "Bob Hope on Campus." Co-produced by Linda (his daughter) and Frank Badami II, the ninety-minute show would take Hope from the University of Southern California to the University of Alabama to Florida's "Gator Growl" with classroom stops along the way at Indiana State University, Harvard University and Colgate. As with the overseas military tours, weeks in advance, we were sent plenty of reference material on each school, so the jokes could be tailored to fit every audience on Hope's itinerary. Guest stars included Vanessa Williams, Morgan Fairchild, Joe Montana, and Dionne Warwick who dropped in for a sketch or stand-up routine, but as they had in the military shows, the monologues dominated and defined the tour. The special was such a success.
