From Hope's earliest tours of military bases during World War II, it was obvious that he enjoyed a unique rapport with young people. So in the fall of 1979, he made his first post-Vietnam foray into the academic world — during the Vietnam years, his stand on the war made college campuses off limits — with a carefully arranged special entitled "Bob Hope on Campus." Co-produced by Linda (his daughter) and Frank Badami II, the ninety-minute show would take Hope from the University of Southern California to the University of Alabama to Florida's "Gator Growl" with classroom stops along the way at Indiana State University, Harvard University and Colgate. As with the overseas military tours, weeks in advance, we were sent plenty of reference material on each school, so the jokes could be tailored to fit every audience on Hope's itinerary. Guest stars included Vanessa Williams, Morgan Fairchild, Joe Montana, and Dionne Warwick who dropped in for a sketch or stand-up routine, but as they had in the military shows, the monologues dominated and defined the tour. The special was such a success. Hope would re-enroll four years later for Bob Hope Goes to College. We took advantage of producer Jane Upton Bell's access to early NFL film footage. Here Hope exchanges comments on the early years of the NFL with OJ Simpson whom we would soon come to know much more intimately. Who could have guessed? With an entertaining balance of film clips, player interviews, music and comedy, this show would turn out to be our highest-rated sports-themed special of the eighties. With a 26 rating and a 34 share, it managed to register as much Neilsen hang-time as an NFL kickoff. USC Grad School Application: Video Sample for Brian Wulfekotte (sidenote: Headphones will make a big difference for 3-4 lines, so if you got 'em, use 'em) This is a parody of actor Leonardo Dicaprio as he attempts to drastically expand his brand image towards Romantic Comedies. I thought it would be funny to see what Dicaprio would be like with his intensity and drive in a lighter Kutcher/Timberlake-esque rom-com. In this clip, Dicaprio and two of his costars are interviewed to promote their upcoming film, "No Strings for Mr. Bennifags." The video was shot with a hand-held Canon hf-20, tripod, and lots of neighborly love. Hope you enjoy! |
